SOAP BREAK

Jack P. Shepherd shares behind-the-scenes glimpse at Coronation Street filming with Tina O’Brien and Mollie Gallagher

JACK P. Shepherd has teased a behind-the-scenes look as filming continues on ITV soap Coronation Street.

After production shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic the cast and crew finally returned in mid-June amid stringent security measures.

And it looks like the cast has been keeping their distance when possible, as Jack shared a snap of himself in a garden with Tina O'Brien and Mollie Gallagher with the girls sitting on different chairs and Jack far in front of them.

Tina, who plays Jack's sister Sarah Platt in the soap, had her head down on the sun lounger and appeared to be reading a book, while Mollie, in her full goth get-up as Nina Lucas, slouched and kept herself shaded with a lace umbrella.

The cast and crew were all a safety induction to get used to the new rules in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ITV is currently producing three episodes a week to ensure the soap, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in December, stays on air - instead of running out of episodes in July.

However, some of the show's most popular cast members, such as Bill Roache, 88, Barbara Knox, 86, Sue Nicholls, 76 and Maureen Lipman, 74, will not be allowed to return to the Manchester set during the initial period of filming.

Any members of the cast and crew who are over the age of 70 or have an underlying health condition will remain at home, as bosses are plotting to keep older actors on-screen with video chat scenes.

New safety measures in place on set include a fixed cohort system that designates crew members to a specific studio or the Coronation Street exterior lot.

The filming units will maintain safe social distancing of two meters with cohort managers in place to make sure everyone stays apart.

Meanwhile, cast and crew will have their temperatures checked on a daily basis by an external company, and the studios will be intensively cleaned and sanitised on a daily basis.
