By comparison, the same flat at Club Anastasia in the same place from the same airport with the same holiday company Thomas Cook costs a staggering £2,526 when flying out on August 6.

That's a rise of 124 per cent.

And a family of four going for a two week self-catering trip to Zante in Greece would be tempted to take the holiday during term time as a fortnight at Alykes Garden Village costs £2,224.20 from July 11-25 compared with £3,093.60 from August 15-29 when flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport with Tui.

And single parents' group Gingerbread pointed out that single parents were doubly affected by price hikes as family deals usually only apply to families with two adults with kids.
