Tourist slapped with £225 fine for SUNBATHING in her bikini in Venice
A TOURIST has been fined €250 (£225) for sunbathing in her bikini while in Venice.
The 23-year-old Canadian woman was making the most of the hot weather at Papadopoli Gardens just steps from Piazzale Roma.
Police issued her with an immediate fine after spotting her in her swimwear, according to , as they crack down on tourist behaviour they deem inappropriate.
According to Venice city council: "It is forbidden to walk in public areas in swimming costumes or bare-chested."
Other rules which could see tourists faced with a steep bill include jumping into the fountains or canals, as well as sitting or lying down on steps of monuments and historical attractions.
Last week, two tourists were also fined for wheeling their bikes through the centre of Venice without any tops on.
Both were fined €250 (£225) each, as well as a €100 (£90) penalty for bringing their bikes near the San Simeone Piccolo church, according to .
The fines were introduced last year by mayor Luigi Brugnaro with tourists being fined between €50 (£44) and €500 (£400) for sitting or lying on the ground.
Italy is clamping down on anti-social behaviour in other popular cities as well.
Tourists who have picnics in Florence will be fined between €150-€500 (£135-£450), while tourists in Rome could also be fined up to €240 (£211) for eating near the fountains.
