British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet checked luggage allowances explained
TRYING to go on holiday with hand baggage only can be difficult.
Instead, we've explained how much luggage you can check into each airline in the UK and how much it costs.
Some airlines will allow passengers to check in a suitcase into the hold without additional cost.
However, new basic fares mean even long haul airlines now offer cheaper flights, but with no checked-luggage included.
We reveal the amount of checked luggage passengers have to pay for on UK airlines including Ryanair, British Airways and easyJet - and how much they each cost.
British Airways
British Airways passengers can check in up to ten bags, weighing no more than 23kg (for economy and premium economy) and 32kg (for busines and first class), measuring no more than 90cm x 75cm x 43cm.
Prices start from £20 for the first bag (for hand baggage only tickets), and £60 for any additional bags, depending on the destination and departing airport.
Ryanair
The airline currently allows a 10kg bag to be checked in, with prices starting from £10.
It must not exceed 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.
A 20kg bag can also be checked in, with a maximum of three bags per person which must not exceed 81cm x 119cm x 119cm.
Bags cost £25 each way if added during booking, or £40 afterwards, including at the airport or over the phone.
Ryanair passengers can also pool their bags together if checking in together - for example, instead of having two 20kg suitcases, passengers can have one that is 15kg and one that is 25kg.
ALL IN HAND Ryanair, easyJet, and British Airways hand luggage allowance rules explained
EasyJet
Passengers travelling with easyJet can check in suitcases up to 23kg on the flight, measuring no more than 275cm in combined dimensions.
Luggage weighing less than 15kg costs between £6.99 and £34.99, while 23kg luggage costs from £9.49 to £37.49 if bought online - this jumps to £40 at the bag drop desk or £50 at the boarding gate.
Virgin
All fares excluding Economy light include at least one checked in bag, with suitcases measuring 90cm x 75cm x 43cm and weighing up to 23kg.
Economy light travellers have to buy additional baggage.
Up to seven bags can be checked in, with prices for the first bag starting from £45.
Additional bags cost £65 to £140.
TUI
TUI passengers travelling on a package holiday are allowed a 15kg suitcase for free to check in.
However, flight-only TUI passengers have to pay extra to check in a suitcase, ranging from £15 to £20 if buying online.
Passengers who leave it to the airport will have to pay £45 to check in a suitcase.
Jet2
Travelling with Jet2, passengers can check in up to three suitcases weighing 22kg.
Prices range from £8 online, going up to £45 at the airport, although the amount depends on the destination.
Flybe
Basic Flybe fares do not include check in luggage, with up to two pieces weighing 23kg each allowed to be added.
Prices range from £24 for one bag if booking online, to £84 for two bags while booking over the phone.
If you're travelling as a group, experts claim you should share suitcases in case one of them gets lost.
By putting clothes and toiletries in each others bags, it means neither person is left without if their suitcase goes missing.
Want to make sure your suitcase is off the plane first? Putting a fragile sticker on it can result in your suitcase being delivered first.
