Chessington’s new Room on the Broom adventure is an enchanting journey for kids of all ages
After the success of the Gruffalo ride, Chessington World of Adventures is bringing Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's imagination to life again
IN my house, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have the pulling power of the Kardashians.
My two girls, aged three and six, have got all the books, the CDs, we’ve watched the BBC adaptations at Christmas way too many times, and we’ve been on the Gruffalo ride at Chessington more than is necessary, too.
So news that the Surrey theme park was launching Room On The Broom – The Magical Journey, was quite possibly the best thing we’d heard since we discovered Zog had a sequel.
And the experience really didn’t disappoint.
One for the younger ones, it’s a gentle walk-through “experience” rather than the usual jump-on, jump-off rides, where parents and children are encouraged to find the Witch’s hat, bow and wand blown off by the stormy winds.
Staying true to the book, each step of the way you meet the loveable Cat, Dog, Bird and Frog and, as a group, you complete an easy mission to open the way into the next enticing assignment.

Both of my girls absolutely loved the mix of computer action and traditional family friendly figurines with bubbling cauldrons and a not-so-scary Dragon.
My three-year-old especially could immerse herself in a ride without feeling out of her depth.
It’s safe to say Room On The Broom, alongside the Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, is a wonderful return to the magical, green, and mellow world of Donaldson and Scheffler.
