The staycation ideas that will make you feel like you’re going abroad – without leaving the UK

Q: "I want to go abroad but can't leave my dog so will try a staycation.

"Where can I go that will make me feel like I'm abroad, without leaving the UK?"

A: No need to cross The Channel to experience French island monastery Mont-Saint-Michel - its UK counterpart, St Michael's Mount, is in Cornwall.

Enjoy the view as you walk your dog along the South West Coast Path, or from the dog-friendly (B&B doubles from £90).

Or for a touch of Scandi chic, Cabin By The River is a rustic wooden chalet in Rye, East Sussex, sleeping one dog and two people from £412pp for seven nights. .

Wine-tasting trips don't have to involve Tuscany. In Surrey, the Denbies Wine Estate is one of the UK's largest wine producers, while the Mayfield Lavender fields (open June to September) rival those in Provence.
