James McAvoy was nearly scammed out of thousands of pounds after trying to book a Tenerife holiday with a fake booking site.
The British actor, who starred in Shameless and X-Men, is now warning other would-be tourists against making the same mistake.
He said: “Just avoided being scammed online trying to book a holiday for my family at The Ritz Carlton Abama hotel in Tenerife."
The star was duped by a fake hotel website, and was just about to transfer the cash for his stay to a man called Joaquin when alarm bells sounded in his brain.
He said: “I just thought the deal seemed too good to be true.
"I doubled checked it through a travel agent and it was a tenth of the price it should be."
He added: "Stay away. If you’ve been scammed by them, hit me up."
James has now alerted the real Ritz Carlton hotel to the fake website, so they can get it removed.
