Number of Brits going on holiday alone TREBLES in just seven years
The chance to do what we want, when we want, without worrying about others has fuelled the increase — with solo travellers looking for “me time”
HOLIDAY Brits are going it alone with a huge boom in solo travel.
The number willing to jet off on their own has tripled in just seven years, according to research by travel association Abta.
The chance to do what we want, when we want, without worrying about others has fuelled the increase — with solo travellers looking for “me time”.
Smartphones, travel apps and increasingly widespread availability of wifi has led to more Brits having the confidence to head off without friends or family.
And its not just older travellers. The biggest rise has been in holidays for 35 to 44-year-olds — up more than 11 per cent in a year.
The research found Asia to be the most popular destination for solo travellers.

Abta chief Mark Tanzer told industry bosses at the annual Travel Convention in Seville, Spain, that solo breaks were booming.
He said: “Going on holiday by yourself means not having to compromise on choice of destination, itinerary or the activities you take part in. Whether they are single or just want some ‘me time’ it’s never been easier to explore the world.”
