Momondo has been named as the cheapest flight comparison website

One website has come top in the search for ten different popular routes

THE cheapest website for comparing flights has been revealed, and it might not be one that you’d normally use.

Which? looked at the leading comparison websites and searched for 10 different flight routes.

found that  was the cheapest – ahead of better-known websites such as , and .

The routes searched for included London to Malaga one way, London to LA return and Edinburgh to Athens return.

Momondo came out on top in every single flight route that was tested.

Surprisingly, Skyscanner, one of the most popular search engine, was matched or beaten on every single route, which shows that it pays to shop around.

Kayak and Cheapflights came in joint second place, finding the lowest prices for eight of the routes.

Prices on return flights to Orlando were surprising, showing up as £756 return on Momondo, but £813 on Skyscanner – a difference of £57. For a family of four, that’s a difference of £228.

Which? also surveyed people about 12 flight comparison sites that they would recommend to others.

For this, Skyscanner came top – despite the fact that it’s not always the cheapest, whereas Momondo came in sixth place.

Fly.com was rated as the worst out of the 12, with those surveyed saying that prices were shown in the wrong currency.

They also said it struggled with simple search terms, and directed them to a US phone number for the cheapest fares.

Sun Online Travel previously revealed that there's a way to save up to 50 per cent when booking long-haul flights.

For those heading off to the likes of Thailand, Mexico and Goa, there's also a way to get rock-bottom prices that you wouldn't have known about.
