BA have been on hand to help one hard-working Royal Navy man create the proposal of his dreams
BRITISH Airways have surprised a military couple with a trip of a lifetime – and it resulted with them getting engaged in the most romantic way possible.
Lieutenant Lee Colthart wrote to BA to ask them help him pull of the proposal of a lifetime to girlfriend Lydia Ayto.
Because of their jobs, the couple often don’t get to see each other for up to six months at a time.
Lee had planned to propose to Lydia last year, but they were both deployed, meaning that he had to put his plans on hold.
He had previously served in the Caribbean, helping to rebuild in the area after the devastation of last year’s hurricanes.
BA bosses wanted to give back to the couple, who have been serving the UK for years.
In the video, Lee phones Lydia from a hotel room by Gatwick Airport, confessing that he’s not at work and that he has a big surprise for her.
The pair, who met in 2010 when they were at Dartmouth doing initial officer training for the Royal Navy are then flown off first class to the Caribbean.
The couple are seen having a brilliant time on the islands of Grenada and St Lucia – before Lee pulls off his huge surprise.
He enlists a BA flight attendant to put up a flag on a boat – that has a wedding proposal for Lydia on it.
Of course, she says yes.
Afterwards, she said: “He’s my best friend, as corny as it sounds, and my partner in crime.
“I wouldn’t replace him for anyone else.”
