Crane gets converted into stunning three-storey holiday home in Amsterdam… but it doesn’t come cheap

SOMETIMES a standard hotel room just won't do.
A quirky apartment in Amsterdam elevates visitors above the city's iconic skyline - as they spend the night inside a crane.
But for the price, you'll get to sleep in comfortable bed, dine with views over the city and even take a relaxing bath.
Reimagined by famous Dutch designer Edward van Vliet, is found on the KNSM-Island in Amsterdam.
Originally a Figee crane 2868 - used to unload ships in the city's port - the structure has been transformed into a three-storey luxury apartment with views over the IJ river.
It now boasts two bedrooms, a modern bathroom with large bathtub and separate shower, chic living space and kitchen with a stylish dining area.
Yays is a travel and stay concept that claims to "reroute urban tourism" giving holidaymakers the chance to stay in "historical buildings in lively areas you won’t find on the tourist maps".
And according to its website "guests will still feel the crane's history and enjoy ultimate comfort at the same time".
The crane was originally built after World War II, after being commissioned by the Royal Dutch Steamboat Company.
But with the invention of shipping containers, cranes were no longer strong enough and the eastern Docklands became overgrown and full of empty warehouses.
When the docks were made into a residential area in 1975, Figee crane 2868 was spared from demolition.
Nowadays the crane is situated in a buzzing part of town surrounded by art galleries, shops and restaurants.

"The crane is back in its home port after a thorough restoration and redecoration by the well-known designer Edward van Vliet.

So far, the apartment, which opened in November has had positive reviews.
