PLANE SILLY

Plane toilets are now so small that passengers can only wash one hand at a TIME

Flight attendants have now started complaining that it's not just seat space which is getting smaller

TRAVELLING in planes is often a cramped experience if you’re flying economy.

It’s the lucky passengers in business and first class who get all the space – and sometimes have more spacious bathrooms.

Travellers on the American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX have been complaining that their toilets are even more cramped than most.

Forbes reports that the toilets on board at the back of the plane are so tiny that passengers struggle to wash more than one hand at a time.

Water is also said to splash everywhere as sinks are so small.

Flight attendants have complained the rest of the plane is so cramped that if both toilet doors are open, they get stuck in the gallery.

It's not just a headache for the Americans though - the new planes will be replacing the 737 over the coming years.

American Airlines are getting the early complaints because they have four of the 737 MAX planes in its fleet, with plans to roll out 20 more per year for the next four years.

But Ryanair is following suit  - putting 110 of the planes into service from early 2019.

Airlines are said to be a fan of the plane because it costs far less to run.

It can also squeeze in 21 more passengers by cutting space in the loos and the kitchen.

That means that passengers are also more cramped in their seats on American Airlines flights, with 30 inches of leg room.

Ryanair hasn't opted to cut legroom on its new planes and will be carrying 197 passengers on the new planes, compared to the 210 passengers on the new American Airlines 737 MAX planes.

Plane toilets might be getting even more cramped as airlines try to fit more people on board - but that didn't stop one man from hiding in one on a flight recently.

The man managed to dodge security and board an easyJet plane by hiding in the toilets after missing his original flight.

The 25-year-old man gave airline workers the slip at Gatwick Airport and sneaked onto a flight to Geneva, Switzerland, last November.

Several horrified passengers then had to be moved onto another flight after the stowaway passenger was discovered by crew moments before take off.

It is understood the passenger had lost track of time in the departure lounge before realising he had missed his flight.

The man then decided to sneak on to the plane in the hope of finding an empty seat but came unstuck when the flight was full.

He was led off the plane and detained by police for questioning.

EasyJet has now launched an investigation into how the rogue passenger managed to get on board flight 8484.

A spokeswoman confirmed a passenger had "incorrectly boarded the aircraft".

She said: "The crew correctly identified the passenger should not be on board and immediately reported it to the police.

"We have taken this up with our ground staff and an investigation has been launched."
