Treat yourself to a relaxing break at Cornwall’s stylish and cosy The Lugger Hotel

THE LUGGER HOTEL, PORTLOE, CORNWALL
WHAT’S IT LIKE? A former smugglers’ inn that’s been converted into a cosy, welcoming hotel by the sea. Tucked away in a sleepy fishing village of Portloe, it has the South West Coast Path right on its doorstep – perfect for keen walkers.
ROOMS ANY GOOD? Yes. The 23 rooms are comfortable and classically styled. We stayed in a Deluxe Sea View room, which had great views. Thoughtful touches included Cornish chocolates on arrival and a hot water bottle. The hotel also has two self-catering cottages to rent.
WHAT ELSE? Spa treatments are available from £50 for one hour and the friendly staff are happy to suggest day trips. You can even bring your pooch. There are beaches nearby in Mevagissey, Carne and Portscatho, or visit the Eden Project, a 35-minute drive away.

You can eat on the terrace overlooking the harbour, or inside, by the fire.
SO YOU’D GO BACK? In a flash. We visited in winter, but the hotel is also a great choice for summer.
