IS there a better way to spend the weekend than at a proper British pub?
Up and down the country every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, families and friends head to their local for a catch up over simple grub and a pint of local ale.
While we'd love to say that every pub is great, sadly there are a few boozers out there that can ruin an afternoon with bad atmosphere or dodgy beer.
So we've rounded up some of the favourites across England and Wales - as reviewed by the great British public themselves.
TripAdvisor has shared with Sun Online their top ten pubs in the UK and they cover everywhere from Wales to North Yorkshire.
The pubs are the most highly rated on the website over the course of 2017 so far, with a minimum of 50 reviews.

Emmott Arms in Laneshawbridge, Colne
With 78 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
The describes itself as “a thoroughly good pub” and it seems many other agree with them.
The a traditional and dog-friendly village pub claims to offer a friendly and relaxing place to eat and drink, ideally placed for cycle routes and country walks.
The recently received Cask Marque recognition for the second year in a row, The Independent Award for pubs serving great quality cask ale.
But one of the main things people rave about is the food, especially the Sunday roasts.
Butchers Arms in Crosby Ravensworth
With 81 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
Situated in the heart of Crosby Ravensworth, is a community pub serving fresh homemade food and drinks in a relaxed & warming atmosphere.
The pub itself is said to date back to 1773 - in 2011, the pub was bought by over 300 people, who wanted to bring the pub back to life & back to the heart of the community.
The dog-friendly pub even has treats on the bar for four-legged friends, but the main focus of the praise is the locally-sourced food, including homemade pork scratchings.
The Greyhound in Bromham, Wiltshire
With 81 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
is a traditional picturesque village pub in the heart of the market garden village of Bromham, run by a husband and wife team.
Husband Danny is the head chef producing everything from hearty pub classics, to a la carte or something from the grill and a traditional Sunday Roast.
Everything gets top marks from reviewers at this pub, like the woman who said: “Everything about the Greyhound is exceptional.
“The friendly landlady, the fun and laughter and the food was just beyond wonderful.”
Trefnant Inn Pub in Trefnant, Denbigh
With 91 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
is a rambling stone-built pub with a modern interior.
All of the high praise here is directed at the food, which some customers have described as “out of this world.”
The Three Horseshoes in Clay Cross
With 89 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
The owners Craig and Mark and we purchased in August 2013 and focused on providing a warm, friendly atmosphere with fantastic food and beer and good entertainment.
The friendly staff and the tasty roast dinners get most praise on TripAdvisor, with the lamb shank particularly popular.
The Stag at Walton in Warrington
With 72 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
is a traditional foodie pub, 1 mile south of Warrington town centre that serves home cooked food.
They also have their own micro-brewery in their cellar, with a couple of beers from their range usually no offer behind the bar.
They say: “Our beers are hand made with only natural ingredients and no preservatives. We choose only the finest hops and malt for our recipes.”
Church House Inn in Rattery, South Devon
With 74 per cent ‘Excellent’ reviews.
at Rattery, South Devon is one of the oldest pubs in England with “bags of olde worlde character.”
The owners have 7 generations of landlords in our family, all within South Devon and Cornwall, so they know what they’re doing.

Dog and Gun in Knayton, North Yorkshire

is a family run village pub set in the small village of Knayton near Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
They pride themselves on home made traditional pub food and a range of local cask ales.
The friendly manner of the staff and the great prices - £18.95 for a 3 course Sunday lunch – are particularly praised among reviewers.
Donkey & Buskins in Layer de la Haye, Colchester
With 71 per cent 'Excellent' reviews.
describes itself as a friendly country pub “where drinkers and eaters alike are looked after with the same friendly and professional service.”
The large pub garden is a firm favourite among drinkers, surrounded by scenic woodland.
A new chef comes in for high praise from regulars too, who rave about the fish and seafood dishes.
The Warren in Camarthen, Wales
With 90 per cent 'Excellent' reviews.
gastro pub was the creation of local chef Deri Reed who has had a lifelong dream to open a restaurant in his hometown of Carmarthen.
As well as a normal menu of simple and locally-sourced dishes, they also plan several pop up restaurants, including the “Street Food Sundays” event.
Unsurprisingly, reviewers rave about the food here, with dishes like marrow, kale & coconut fritters, and pan-fried hake ratatouille.
