APOOLLING!

Now Brits are laying their towels by the pool to reserve spots as hotels refuse to let out sun loungers until 9am

A hotel guest took a picture of the pool surrounded by empty towels at 9am – even though sun loungers weren't yet available

BRITS don’t get much sunshine at home, which might be why they go so berserk over securing sun loungers on holiday.

A tourist captured the perfect picture of the obsession while on holiday in Menorca recently.

Jackie Liff was staying at the Sunconnect Los Delfines when she noticed the hotel pool was surrounded by empty towels in the morning – even though no sun loungers were yet available.

According to Jackie, the hotel staff leave the sunbeds locked up until 9am every day to stop guests from securing them before breakfast.

She said: “Not having the sunbeds unlocked until 9am means people just leave towels out around the pool to claim their space.”

The picture shows at least 35 towels placed next to the pool – with not a single person lying on them.

The picture has come to light just a couple of days after a video emerged of tourists running to bag sun loungers at 8am when the pool opens at a hotel in Gran Canaria.

In many cases they lay their towels down and head into breakfast before returning at their leisure.

The drama unfolds every day at the four-star Servatur Waikiki Gran Canaria in the popular resort of Playa del Ingles in the south of the island.

The hotel has almost 500 rooms and several hundred loungers can be seen in the video.

Hotel insiders revealed the worst offenders were in fact the British and Irish.

They say Germans, who have traditionally been accused of nabbing beds, are far more likely to have breakfast first and look for a lounger afterwards.
