Newcastle Airport has opened its own doner kebab takeaway – so passengers can eat them on FLIGHTS
Kebabs include either doner meat, pulled pork, pulled chicken or halloumi and can be boxed up to eat on the plane
THERE'S a time and a place for the doner kebab - at 1am after the bar closes.
The last place you'd expect to find someone tucking in to the meaty pita in on a plane.
But the bosses at Newcastle Airport reckons that is exactly what passengers want, and have opened a takeway shop called Pita and Brew in the departures lounge.
Kebabs are the order of the day, from early morning to late and you can even have them boxed to take on the plane with you.
It might attract some unfriendly looks from neighbours though.
Dean Ward, commercial manager at Newcastle Airport said: “There has been huge growth in our catering concepts at the airport.”
“This is a grab and go concept and offers something a little bit different and it comes as a result of feedback we have had from customers. They want more healthier options.
“We also believe the fact you can have your order boxed to take on the plane with you will prove very popular.
"If you have time, of course, you can also enjoy it in Pita and Brew itself.”

Pita and Brew is operated by the airport’s catering partner SSP and the produce is freshly made each day in the kitchen it shares with the Cabin restaurant bar.
The kebabs are priced at £6.95 and you can choose from pulled pork, pulled chicken, halloumi and doner meat and all are served with tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuce and slaw and topped with tomato chilli and garlic sauce.
You can also `go naked’ and have all the fillings without the pita.
More traditional breakfast options are also served before 11.30am each day, including bacon and sausage rolls and a full English or vegetarian breakfast box.
