A HUGE new holiday park is opening in the Peak District - that will cost £1billion to build.
The sprawling 283-acre resort will act as a 'gateway to the Peak District' thanks to its on-site holiday lodges, hotel rooms and car parking spaces.
Plans for the PEAK Gateway were green-lit last year by Chesterfield Borough Council after planning permission was first obtained back in 2008.
The adventure hub is being built on hundreds of acres of ex-mining land on the edge of the Peak District.
Likened to European ski resorts, the PEAK Gateway will have 250 holiday lodges and 2,000 hotel rooms spread across its site.
Other facilities slated to feature include educational spaces, shops, leisure attractions and a wellness clinic.

There will also be a 'green skills' academy, a hostel, an activity lake, an artisan market, a horticulture building and 10 miles of cycling trails.
Retail spaces and food and drink outlets will also be built on the Derbyshire site.
Despite all these modern offerings, around 70 per cent of the land will be kept as green space to help boost biodiversity in the area.
A solar field with sustainable drainage and landscaped grounds will provide green energy to the Gateway buildings.

There will also be an additional 1,587 car parking spaces and 160 EV charging points.
The site will help holidaymakers explore the Peak District National Park without using cars, acting as the countryside's answer to a ski resort.
The PEAK Gateway will be worth £1billion when it opens, reports .
The sprawling adventure resort has been in the works since 2008 when planning permission was initially secured.
Chesterfield Borough Council gave the project go-ahead for the resort's buildings and access roads last March.
The first phase of construction work is already underway, with accommodation, retail and leisure facilities slated to open to the public by 2027 at the earliest.
While visitors will be able to book overnight accommodation, day passes will also be available to purchase.
Further details, including prices, have yet to be revealed.
Jo Dilley, managing director of Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, said: "The PEAK Gateway development is a transformative project that will redefine the visitor experience in the Peak District.
"With the introduction of high-quality serviced hotels, we will be able to cater to more groups and international visitors, offering world-class accommodations and amenities.
"This development marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and enjoyable future for all who visit and live in and around the Peak District."
Elsewhere in the UK, a luxury holiday resort is being planned for Preston and will boast fancy lodges and caravans.
There will be more than 100 lodges among the facilities, which will be constructed on the site of a disused golf course.
What's more, there will also be space for 26 caravans at the park, which is due to take over the old Goosnargh Golf Club in Preston that hasn't been used since 2019.
