The new Edinburgh to Bordeaux route, taking off on June 26, will be the only direct connection to Bordeaux from Scotland.

Flights will be twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, throughout summer, perfect for a long weekend to the heart of France’s fantastic wine country.

Bordeaux, in France’s south west, is famous for its beautiful stone façades and fine wines, but also attracts visitors thanks to its delicious gastronomy and lively cultural scene.

Visit the Cité du Vin to learn about the history of wine and how it is made, and the Bassins de Lumières, a unique art museum that uses light and sound to create immersive experiences.

After exploring the city’s museums, head to the city’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s world-famous Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André (dedicated to Scotland’s patron St Andrew). It has its own UNESCO World Heritage designation as part of the Way of St. James, the Camino de Santiago, in France.

Don’t miss the grand Place de la Bourse, centered on the Three Graces fountain and the huge reflecting pool.

Then reward yourself in one of the city’s 14 Michelin-star restaurants and enjoy the fine wines produced in the region.

The city is easily walkable, with most of the major sites in comfortable walking distance but there are trams that are easy to use.
