The world-leading airport is set to get a brand-new development called Skytopia.

Skytopia was officially announced by Airport Authority Hong Kong and will feature a host of activities and attractions.

Not only will it house Hong Kong's biggest-ever marina, with enough space for 600 berths, but it will also be home to Hong Kong's biggest aquatic recreation area.

In addition to its huge capacity for yachts and water-based activities, the new development has been described as a "global hub for culture, commerce and lifestyle".

Skytopia will also have Hong Kong's first-ever standalone storage facility where collectors, galleries and museums can store their artwork.

A "sportstainment complex" will have space for various indoor and outdoor sports.

There will also be a resort with waterfront views, a 1.5km-long CoveWalk and a piazza for scenic walks.

Meanwhile, fresh food will also be served at the "Jet Fresh Market".

AsiaWorld Expo—Phase 2 will also be expanded and will house Hong Kong’s largest purpose-built indoor performance venue.

The venue will be able to seat 20,000 spectators in a large-scale concert and events venue.

Skytopia will reportedly cost HKD 70 billion (£7.3billion) to build.

Fred Lam, Chairman of AAHK, said: "We envisage that Hong Kong International Airport will not be just a place for passengers to board their flights or a portal for entering Hong Kong.

"Our vision is to develop ‘SKYTOPIA’ into a landmark of its own and a world-leading destination, attracting visitors from within Hong Kong and the prosperous Greater Bay Area, as well as major markets in Asia and the rest of the world.

"We look forward to working with investors to make ‘SKYTOPIA’ a key economic driver of Hong Kong and beyond".

Detailed plans are currently being developed, with Skytopia seeking partnerships with investors and stakeholders.

Last year, the world-leading airport announced it would be introducing a new security screening system allowing travellers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their hand-carry luggage when going through security checks.

A new three-runway system also went into service last year, boosting the airport's capacity for passengers and cargo.

What is it like to visit Hong Kong?

DEPUTY Travel editor Kara Godfrey visited Hong Kong last year, here's what she thought about her stopover visit...

It's day two of my trip, and I'm on my sixth course of dim sum.

You’d think I’d be sick of it by now, but where better to sample the traditional Chinese dish than Hong Kong?

After all, it is home to some of the best dim sum restaurants in the world.

It also makes the perfect stopover destination between trips to Australia and New Zealand.

It's easy to get around — the Metro is simpler than the London Underground, and you can even hop on a “ding ding,” one of the many double-decker trams.

But I decided to stay on my own two feet with my stomach calling for a foodie tour of the city.

Following my daily shrimp dumplings and BBQ pork bun breakfast, I was told that sweets were a big part of Hong Kong culture.

I was won over by a mango tofu pudding from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, eagerly slurping up the sweet and silky dish.

Hong Kong is also home to the famous egg waffle, also known as the bubble waffle in the UK, which is cooked in a griddle with spherical cells.

I knew the fluffy, Earl Grey Tea-infused batter recipe from Mammy Pancake would not disappoint.

Meanwhile, a major airport set to become the world’s biggest reveals new terminal welcoming millions more passengers.

London Stansted Airport has revealed plans to welcome another 20million in the next 16 years, ahead of a £1.1billion renovation.
