English town’s £163million revamp to include new 130-bed hotel, cafes and ‘leisure zone’

A TOWN centre in Merseyside will benefit from a huge multi-million-pound revamp - and it's great news for visitors.

Located in the Liverpool Built-Up Area, Huyton town centre is set to be renovated as part of a 10-year masterplan.

The first phase of the project will see 72 new apartments and a 130-room hotel built.

There will also be a commercial space and a village green.

A war memorial will also be relocated, as part of the ambitious renovation plans.

Other proposed features include a surface-level car park, a library, a community hub, and a leisure space.

Part of a huge £163million masterplan, the plans have been put forward by Knowsley Council.

An initial £3.6million in funding has already been secured, with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority investing £2million in the project.

The proposals will move forward to the planning stage, with more information to follow.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: "We’ve shown in Kirkby and Prescot what we can achieve when we work together—and now it’s Huyton’s turn.

"Alongside Knowsley Council, we’re unlocking the potential for Huyton to become a thriving, modern town that people can feel proud of.

“This £2m investment is about more than just new buildings —it’s about creating affordable homes, vibrant green spaces, and better facilities that will bring jobs, businesses, and life back into the town centre. It’s another step in our mission to ensure every part of our city region gets the opportunity to thrive."

It is not yet known when construction work will start on the town centre renovation.

Huyton is a 30-minute drive from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, a former industrial site in Stoke-on-Trent is set to get a £60million revamp.

Located between Stoke-on-Trent Train Station and the Trent & Mersey Canal, the Goods Yard is a new urban neighbourhood in the city.

The first phase of the £60million development will be completed next spring, with work already underway on a hotly-anticipated public square.
