English town’s £163million revamp to include new 130-bed hotel, cafes and ‘leisure zone’

A TOWN centre in Merseyside will benefit from a huge multi-million-pound revamp - and it's great news for visitors.
Located in the Liverpool Built-Up Area, Huyton town centre is set to be renovated as part of a 10-year masterplan.

Council buildings from the 1970s that have been deemed unfit for purpose will be demolished,
The first phase of the project will see 72 new apartments and a 130-room hotel built.
There will also be a commercial space and a village green.
A war memorial will also be relocated, as part of the ambitious renovation plans.

Other proposed features include a surface-level car park, a library, a community hub, and a leisure space.
Part of a huge £163million masterplan, the plans have been put forward by Knowsley Council.
An initial £3.6million in funding has already been secured, with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority investing £2million in the project.
The proposals will move forward to the planning stage, with more information to follow.

It is not yet known when construction work will start on the town centre renovation.
Huyton is a 30-minute drive from Liverpool.
Meanwhile, a former industrial site in Stoke-on-Trent is set to get a £60million revamp.
Located between Stoke-on-Trent Train Station and the Trent & Mersey Canal, the Goods Yard is a new urban neighbourhood in the city.
The first phase of the £60million development will be completed next spring, with work already underway on a hotly-anticipated public square.
According to the , Capital&Centric, the new square will feature a lawn area that's the same size as a tennis court, a walkway, hangout spaces, seating areas and over 70 trees and plants.
There will also be a space for pop-up markets and live music events, which both locals and holidaymakers will be able to visit.

Blackpool's Winter Gardens first opened in 1878, with the huge entertainment complex home to 12 venues now Grade II listed.
The attraction is undergoing upgrades in two areas – The Olympia and The Arena – at an estimated cost of £495,000.
The Arena, which opened in 1896, was once an Indian-inspired lounge and a cabaret bar, before being turned into a venue space.
And the Olympia, which opened in 1930, is used for exhibitions.
Both are being improved with better bars and facilities as well as new flooring and walls.
Winter Gardens managing director Michael Williams said: "Since 2022, we have embarked on a phased improvement of our bars and catering facilities.
"The benefits of these investments are now evident in the Empress Ballroom and other refurbished areas, improving both customer experience and operational efficiency."
Meanwhile, this is the smallest town in the UK - and it has a Michelin starred restaurant.
