New £60million holiday resort to open near one of the UK’s best beaches

The nearby beach has even been named as one of the best in all of Europe

A NEW holiday resort has been given approval to open in the UK - near a much-loved beach.

The £60million Green Ridge resort will open near Newquay in Cornwall, which is famed for it's beautiful beach.

Also onsite will be a waterpark and attractions

The resort will have 400 lodges across 70 acres of land.

On-site will be a swimming pool and indoor spa area, with treatments on offer to guests.

A waterpark and splash park will be on-site also, as well as playgrounds.

An indoor activity centre as well as outdoor events, walking trails and lakes will be part of the park.

Restaurants, shops and a bar and café will also open.

Despite some opposition, the park has been given approval to open.

Councillor Rob Nolan told local media: “Tourism is changing in Cornwall and big hotels are closing down."

While he said he "understood" concerns of locals, he added there "was a need for it".

The resort is expected to generate £26million a year, with 200 jobs created.

Councillor Phil Seeva added: "I have no doubt that people coming on holiday to a premium campsite will spend money in Cornwall.

"On balance I support this.”

The resort would open near the village of Colan, which is a short drive to Newquay Beach.

Earlier this year Newquay was named the best UK holiday hotspot by Go Outdoors.

Looking at hotels, activities, local transport and weather, the Cornish town came out on top.

Also in Newquay is Fistral Beach, often named one of the best in Europe.

The long stretch of sand is also home to the annual Boardmasters Festival.

The Sun's Wally Downe's Jr recently visited Newquay, saying: "Twenty years ago, Newquay was the place all the coolest kids at my school used to go for the best underage parties.

"But the Cornish surf spot is not so much of a party place these days.

"Stables pizza restaurant on Fistral Beach might be the most beautifully placed UK restaurant I have ever enjoyed.

"We could have easily been in Miami on the scorching June evening we visited and the sea is so close you could sling your pizza crusts in there."

And Brits are even dubbing Cornwall as “the Ibiza of the UK”.
