Introducing Antalya
Holidays to Antalya open up one of Turkey’s most popular tourist spots, a beautiful region boasting the longest coastline in the country set against the striking Taurus Mountains. Part of the ‘Turkish Riviera’, gorgeous beaches and palm-lined streets complement the flashy boutiques, restaurant-packed marina and buzzing nightlife.
Explore stunning architecture, beautiful waterfalls, fantastic sunshine, impressive golf courses and of course a choice of sun-drenched beaches. Accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes too, with anything from good value B&Bs to lavish 5-star hotels to choose from. The neighbouring historic walled city of Side is also worth a visit with an ancient amphitheatre and Roman baths.
Getting Around
Antalya is fairly easy to get around, and while many visitors opt to hire a car this is not necessary as there are some great public transport options, and transfers from Antalya airport are just 10km.
If you want to opt for the convenience and freedom of car hire, there are a hire companies to choose from and you’ll probably find the prices to be cheaper than in some other European countries. Do watch out for fearless pedestrians who seem to step out into roads without a care in the world.
There is a great bus system serving Antalya. Fares are inexpensive, and you can also travel to places outside of the city using the blue-striped buses. Antalya also has a tramway, which costs just 1.75 Turkish Lira and is a great way to see the city’s sights. Tickets for public transport can be purchased from bus and tram stops or stations, where you can also recharge contactless travel cards.
Antalya has fleets of taxis and dolmus (minibuses) who offer transport to visitors. Dolmus travel set routes, but taxis will travel anywhere. There are many taxi ranks dotted around the city. Be prepared to pay 50% more for a night-time taxi ride.
