Getting around Phuket

Getting around Phuket shouldn’t prove too challenging. You can walk around most beach resorts without having to rely on transport, with the vast majority of hotels being situated near to shops, beaches and restaurants. Tuk tuks are ideal for anyone looking for an authentic Thai transport experience, though they can be pricey and aren’t comfortable enough for lengthy journeys. There are many trustworthy companies offering car hire services if you wish to visit remote areas, though there are bus services connecting you to some destinations off the beaten track.

There are taxis waiting for you in all the main resort areas as well as Phuket Town, but agree a price before the engine starts to avoid paying more than you need to or wait for a metered taxi. Riding a hired motorbike to travel round Phuket can be exhilarating, but remember that insurance is not usually included and medical treatment could cost the earth if you do have an accident. The roads can become extremely dangerous during the wetter months of the year. Motorbike taxis are another popular option for getting round. Again, you’ll need to agree a fee before you jump on. It’s wise to do your research regarding transport before you head to Phuket so you can focus on enjoying yourself once you’re there.
