Introducing Croatia

Croatia’s Adriatic coast has a pleasant Mediterranean climate, making it a top destination for spring and autumn as well as high summer. Sun worshippers come from far and wide to lap up the bright sunshine and breath-taking views along this coastline. Further inland, historic towns and stylish cities make for ideal urban breaks. With a practically limitless list of places to visit and stunning and diverse beaches where you can just kick back and relax. In times gone by, Croatia was hardly a holiday hotspot, however, in recent years this has changed and this newly arrived fashionista is quickly climbing the ranks of Europe’s must visit destinations.

Getting Around Croatia

Croatia has a variety of transport options to make it easy to get around. Car hire is a great way to explore with freedom, but head too far off the beaten track and the roads can be poor. The fast toll motorways are a speedier, if less scenic, option but can add up if you are travelling far. The toll to get from Zagreb to Split, for example will set you back around £20. Parking in the big cities can be a challenge.

Travelling by bus or train in Croatia is generally a pleasant experience, with services running efficiently and regularly. Buses (autobusi) are the faster option of the two and boast air-conditioning (essential in the height of summer) and affordable tickets. Rural buses may be less efficient - and less air-conditioned. Tickets should be bought from stations in advance if possible but can also be purchased on board.

Croatia’s islands can be visited by ferry, many of which operate a hop on hop off service. Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar are the main destinations which ferries depart from. Pedestrian tickets are far cheaper than if you are taking a vehicle.
