Getting Around Playa de las Americas
If you’re happy to stay in the resort, Playa de las Americas is easy to get around on foot. If you want the freedom of your own wheels, Tenerife is a great island to explore and has some stunning coastal roads. The mountain roads are more hazardous and winding but generally the roads are good and the rules of the road are similar to those in the UK. Most of the main car hire companies have offices in Playa de las Americas – just remember to drive on the ‘wrong’ side of the road!
Bus travel is also a good way to get around, with buses linking Playa de las Americas with most of the other towns and resorts on the island. Buses on Tenerife are called guaguas (say it ‘wah wahs’) and offer a reliable and affordable service. If you plan to travel a bit, it’s worth investing in a Bono card at the bus station to get discounted travel as well as entry into some museums and attractions.
Playa de las Americas has plenty of white taxis running through the day and night. You can find one at a taxi rank or flag one down in the street if it has its green light on. Fares are metered and regulated so make sure your driver has the meter running.
