Introducing Menorca

Every holiday cliché can be applied to Menorca, and we mean that in the loveliest way possible. Largely unspoilt, it boasts idyllic coves, glistening sand and clear, blue seas. Sleepy Menorca is more focused on lazy days and fun excursions against a beautiful backdrop than more notorious Balearic destinations. Enjoy fine landscapes and sleepy villages where you can sit back, relax and immerse yourself in the authentic side of the island. Fashionistas should adore the harbour-side eateries and designer boutiques of the island’s capital of Mahon, while those more interested in history and culture should visit the prehistoric relics like the deserted village of Torre d’en Gaumes. Seems to us that all the boxes are ticked!

Getting Around

Getting around Menorca shouldn’t be too tough on visitors. There’s a hugely reliable bus network that links all the notable towns and resorts, though services aren’t as regular outside of the summer months and are less frequent during the early hours of the afternoon (siesta time!). There are many reputable taxi services on the island, and car hire facilities are available for those wishing to explore Menorca without relying on public transport. It’s a good idea to research your options online before you travel so you can spend less time planning and more time enjoying your holiday once you’re there.

If you plan on hiring a vehicle to drive yourself around the island, don’t forget to stay on the right-hand side of the road. You may need to head to your destination early to secure a parking spot, especially if you’re visiting a popular beach or resort. Scooters and motorbikes are available for hire, but you should check your travel insurance policy before you hire these as they could invalidate your cover. However, parking may be much less stressful if you do opt for these modes of transport.

Waits for taxis can be lengthy depending on when you require them. Demand for taxis swells during the summer months and operators have been known to struggle to meet it.
