Closed-down £15million waterpark right by the beach reveals plans to FINALLY reopen
A CLOSED-down waterpark in Wales has finally revealed plans to reopen after it was forced to shut last year.
SC2 Waterpark in Rhyl, Wales, closed to visitors after its roof was damaged during a storm.
The £15million attraction remained closed throughout the summer, despite the school summer holidays being its most popular period.
However, its operator, Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL), has revealed plans to repair and reopen the attraction.
Managing Director of DLL, Jamie Groves told : "Unfortunately, due to the scale of the works, this has been a very lengthy process with the insurance company who had to agree to the extent of the works; and we had to take into account all the other construction works already taking place around SC2 which limited access.
"But we are delighted to announce that the work to repair the roof will begin within the next few weeks, with scaffolding being erected around the building very soon."

Mr Groves also confirmed that the beachfront waterpark would reopen in 2025.
He added: "[We] will be back next year, better and stronger than ever, and with a fantastic range of free and low cost community offers in the pipeline to welcome you all back."
When SC2 Waterpark finally reopens, it's likely to have most of its previous attractions like water slides and flume rides.
One of the water slides is The Boomerang, a rubber ring ride where visitors are launched down a slide.
There's also the Anaconda, the fastest flume in the park where park-goers speed down the ride in complete darkness before coming out of the slide through a snake's jaw.
For younger visitors, there's also Piranha Play, a large play area with water toys and smaller slides.
Even though the waterpark has been closed for the last nine months, there are two other attractions open on the site.
Both SC2 Ninja TAG Arena and the Adventure Play will remain open throughout the winter.
The Adventure Play is for children under 1.48m.
Inside the Jurassic-themed soft play area kids are promised a roar-some time with a maze of slides, ropes, climbing frames and puzzles.
For older children, there's the Ninja TAG Arena - a multi-level assault course that's described as a cross between Total Wipeout and Ninja Warrior.
Across the four levels, there are a total of 21 challenges and 80 targets, which need to be completed within 20 minutes.
Top challenges include the Giant Ball Pit, the Ball Hop and the Spider wall.
Children must be taller than 1.2m to take on the host of challenges in the Ninja Tag Arena, with entry tickets starting from £11.
What's Rhyl like?
Until SC2 Waterpark reopens next year, there are plenty of other reasons to visit Rhyl.
The traditional seaside town is home to a large sandy beach and Britain's oldest miniature railway.
It was named one of the country's best-kept secrets by Secret Birmingham, who wrote "Hidden at the top of North Wales, Rhyl feels like one of the country’s best-kept secrets.
"Rhyl East Beach offers traditional seaside town vibes in the summer times, thanks to miles of sandy shores."
Stretching for nearly two miles from the Clwyd Estuary to Splash Point, Rhyl Beach is one of the town's top attractions.
The huge sandy beach is made even bigger when the tide goes out, with beach-goers having to walk half a mile from the promenade to the water.
Rhyl Beach has been praised by visitors on TripAdvisor, with one person saying: "Rhyl has a lovely golden sandy beach that stretches all along the promenade."
Other attractions in Rhyl include the Rhyl Miniature Railway, which is said to be the oldest miniature railway in Britain.
The tiny train has been delighting passengers since the start of the 20th century.
