Woman reveals how she got a free extra holiday after being bumped from her flight – and thousands of pounds of vouchers
The tourist wanted to reach her goal of nearly £8,000 worth of free flights
AN AMERICAN tourist revealed how she got a free extra holiday in Italy after being bumped from her flight – and thousands of pounds worth of flight vouchers.
When Susan Berry’s flight was overbooked, American Airlines reportedly needed volunteers to stay behind in Italy – with expenses paid.
Photographer Susan was given the news that her American Airlines flight was overbooked – as were the others to Philadelphia for almost two weeks, she said.
Susan’s Naples trip was able to be extended a few days, boasting thousands of pounds worth of four-star hotel stays, private cars, delicious meals – and securing flight vouchers.
The 36-year-old suggested that she couldn’t wait to volunteer herself to stay longer on holiday.
Speaking to she said: “Before the manager could even finish his sentence, I’m like, ‘Me! Me! Me! Can I do it please?'”
Susan managed to rack up an eye-watering total of $3,550, or around £2,780, in flight vouchers.
This isn’t even including the luxurious hotel stay, her meals and transport, it’s reported.
Sadly for her, this didn’t quite meet her $10,000 goal of free flying.
Despite Berry telling she was “mentally preparing to stay for two weeks”, her holiday was extended by three nights.
It comes after a tourist revealed an easy way to snare free snacks and drinks at your hotel.
All it takes is a quick phone call with a dash of politeness, the TikToker says.
Social media star “thejuliabaird” posted a viral video showing how to make the hack work.
Whenever you have a hotel stay, make sure you get someone to call them up to ask if they can do “something special” for you.
Julia explains: “Every time I’m travelling, my mum calls the hotel to do something special for me, even if it’s, like, not a special occasion.
“I’m in Vancouver right now travelling for work, and my mum called the hotel and had them put together a little gift basket.”
She then films herself walking into her room to find a little bundle of treats including popcorn, sweets and fruit.
“Look at this – literally from my mum – for free.
“Not only did I get free snacks, but they also wrote me a little card.
“If you or your mum isn’t calling the hotel every time you travel, you’re doing something wrong.”
There is a technique to claiming the freebies, however.
Julia posted another video with her mum explaining how she does it.
She explains: “I tell them a little bit about myself and who I’d like to send the gift to, and just see if there is anything they can do to help make the stay a little bit more special for the person.”
