And where to find the world's coolest McDonald's inside an old aeroplane

A MCDONALD'S in a popular European city break destination has drawn attention due to it having a unique feature.

Most people are familiar with the experience of a Maccies Drive Thru, with people able to order and receive their food from their car, without even having to remove their seatbelts.

But in Hamburg, in Germany, hungry visitors can access their food from a river, via a boat drive-thru, or "McBoat" as its known.

A small dock out the back of the restaurant enables kayakers, paddle boarders and anyone else travelling along the river to order and collect their food without the need to set food on dry land.

The dock has been open for nine years now, after first launching in 2015, and even had its own microphone and speakers for people to pull up and order.

However, this has since been removed, with customers instead able to order via the McDonald's smartphone app instead.

During the spring and summer, the McBoat is open 24/7, as long as people are working at the restaurant, they're happy to serve customers.

However, during the winter months, it closes, with fewer people needing to make use of it.

Instead of customers needing to go into the restaurant to collect their food, they instead simply have to bob around near the dock and wait for staff to bring their meal out to them.

One person who visited the float-thru was Instagram user Jordan Egbert ().
