VALLETTA

Better still, the entire island is littered with brilliant bays overlooking the bluest seas where you can soak up the heat.

NICE

SOUTHERN France is a reliable option for sun-seekers, and the coastal town of Nice on the French Riviera only receives an average of 1.4 inches of rain in June.

With pretty pebbled shores, the old town’s baroque buildings and beach-side bars serving chilled wine, it is no wonder this region attracts a chic celebrity crowd — especially with Cannes just up the road.

The standout of this chic hotel is its brilliant location, at the edge of the charming old town, close to the 17th century cathedral and just a stone’s (or pebble’s) throw from the beach.

The hotel only serves brekkie but is surrounded by many excellent restaurants serving fish caught earlier that day.

LISBON

IT is not only cracking restaurants and vibrant bars that make Portugal’s capital so special.

It only rains three days in the month of June on average, which means you can take advantage of all those alfresco rooftops, sipping the local tipple, ginjinha — a morello cherry liqueur.

The 4H HF Fenix Urban, at the top of the city and next to Parque Eduardo VII, has shiny modern rooms and a swish lobby bar that’s perfect for a night cap.

There’s a restaurant on site too, but just a ten-minute walk away is The World Needs Nata, one of the best spots for a traditional pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) as well as some excellent tapas restaurants.

Seven nights’ room-only costs from £702pp, with flights from Gatwick on June 4.

When you’re not busy browsing famous artworks at the Prado museum or getting lost in the largest park in the city, El Retiro, then head to San Miguel market.
