Its location is described as "peerless" on camping community website, , who included it on their list of best beach-side campsites and also praised its no caravan policy and proximity to Brighton.

They wrote: "Not many campsites can boast a peerless location within a National Park, beautiful beaches within reach and the delights of arguably Britain’s most fun-filled seaside city just a walk away.

"Tents and small campervans are welcome (there’s also a cluster of bell tent bases if you have your own) but the caravan contingent are not, meaning there’s no unsightly wagons blotting the landscape.

"There’s a refreshingly laid-back vibe to proceedings here – pitches are unregimented so it’s a case of finding a suitable spot amidst the undulating slopes."

While the city's hotels fill up fast in the summer, this campsites offers great access to Brighton, while providing more peaceful and attractive surroundings.

The site is located at Bevendean Farm, a family run farm within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There are cows and sheep grazing in fields close to the campsite where visitors can stay in self-serving tent pitches.

Pitches can host a family of six, while there's plenty of space for children to play.

Eight world-class UK beaches

Campfires are also allowed in the site's fire pits, which are available to hire.

Breakfast baps are served daily, filled with locally-reared sausage, bacon and egg.

Away from the site's facilities, there are a number of walks that offer views, particularly of the scenery around the River Ouse.

Getting to Brighton from the campsite is very simple, with a short drive or a bus ride perfect options for a day out.

Best staycation locations for 2024

1. Bristol

The arty harbour city was the top spot on the list and is bursting with culture and trendy cafes scattered along the River Avon.

A bubbling hub for creatives, Bristol is the birthplace of street artist Banksy, and you can admire some of his best early works on a free walking tour.

2. Hull

The Humberside port city started to get recognition last year, and it has a thriving nightlife scene - if that's something you're after.

The old town is crawling with history and classy buildings, whose walls have many stories to tell and The Deep is a fascinating aquarium attraction.

3. Isles of Scilly

Just off the Cornish coast, it's easy to see why the archipelago made it into the top three.

Here, you can expect golden sandy beaches where you will be able to spot dolphins beyond the shoreline, as well as seafront pubs serving up hearty grub.

Meanwhile, the quieter Rottingdean Beach is also just a stone's throw away for those looking to escape the busyness of Brighton.

The site has a total score of 4.8/5 on Google Reviews, with plenty of people giving it the full five stars.

One wrote: "Everything about the stay was perfect, hosts were so friendly, lovely clean facilities, fire wood and breakfast able to preorder."

Another said: "Beautiful site. We pitched two tents over the weekend for a group of 5 and we loved it. Access to Brighton was easy, and we'd love to stay again."

A third added: "We stayed here for the weekend with family (4 adults and 3 children) and we absolutely loved it!

"The showers and toilets are immaculate, very good pitch sizes, stunning location. We will definitely be returning!"

Bookings start from £16 per adult and £8 per child. Children under three go for free.

As well as choosing the right location, there are plenty of things that holidaymakers need to consider when going on a camping trip.

Check your tent

Before heading on any trip, you should put your tent up a couple of weeks ahead of your trip, to give you enough time to repair or replace any damaged parts.

You’d be surprised how many people turn up to their holidays with broken tents.

Test the ground

Picking a good spot to pitch your tent is difficult, with lots of things to consider.

One of those should be the condition of the ground you're putting your tent on top of.

You should test the ground with your pegs before you commit to camping there to make sure the ground is soft enough.

Don't nap in your tent

It may seem the perfect place for it, but a nap in a tent could end badly, if it's done at the wrong time of the day.

If the sun’s shining and it’s hot inside your tent you could easily end up with heatstroke.

If you really need a nap, find some shade outside or somewhere well ventilated.
