New train station set to open in one of the UK’s coolest neighbourhoods

The area has a Michelin-starred restaurant and hosts two music festivals

A TRAIN station in the UK is set to reopen after being closed for more than 80 years.

Train journeys in the West Midlands are set to improve as three new train stations will be opening in Birmingham.

Moseley Village Train Station first opened to the public in 1867, but closed down in 1941 as a wartime economy measure during the Second World War.

Even though passengers have been unable to board a train at the station for the last 83 years, its tracks have still been routinely used by freight services.

Despite the eight decade closure, Moseley Village Train Station is set to reopen.

It will be one of three stations to reopen along the Camp Hill line in Birmingham, with the other two stations including Pineapple Road and Kings Heath.

Transport for West Midlands and the West Midlands Rail Executive are working with Network Rail and West Midlands Trains to develop the new stations, according to .

The new station will be located between Woodbridge Road and St Mary’s Row.

There will be both stair and lift access from St Mary’s Row, as well as secure bicycle storage.

The new stations will provide regular train services into Birmingham New Street.

It is thought that construction is already underway - although an official opening date has yet to be revealed.

Until the revamped train station reopens, Moseley Village can be easily accessed from Birmingham city centre on several bus routes, including both the 50 and 35 bus route.

Moseley is arguably one of Birmingham's coolest neighbourhoods thanks to its independent food scene and edgy music festivals.

There are six Michelin-starred restaurants in Birmingham, the most outside London, and one of them is in Moseley.

Carters of Moseley became a Michelin-starred restaurant back in 2015 thanks to its seasonal British grub.

There are other tasty delights in Moseley too, including Damascena Moseley, Sorrento Lounge and Ponte di Legno.

Outside of the bubbling food scene, there are plenty of other attractions in and around the area, including Cannon Hill Park and Nature Reserve, Moseley Park and Moseley Bog, the latter of which is said to have inspired The Lord of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.

A revamped attraction is set to reopen in Moseley next year following a £15.5million renovation project.

Moseley Road Baths first opened back in 1907, but it closed in October 2023 to make way for the redevelopment.

The Edwardian pool, now Grade II listed, is the only baths in the country to have hosted continuous swimming events since before 1914.

The renovation project will include a new cafe, gym and wellbeing hub, as well as updates to the roof, boilers and entry ways.

Two music festivals take place in Moseley throughout the year.

The Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul festival takes place every July in Moseley Park, with this year's headliners including Kool & the Gang.

Moseley Folk and Art Festival is the area's other popular music festival with previous performances including Laura Marling.

There are plenty of other train stations that are slated to open across the UK, including Aldridge station in Walsall.

While the station closed to passengers in 1965, its tracks have still been routinely used by freight services in the years since its closure.

Even though the station hasn't welcomed a single passenger in nearly 60 years, the West Midlands train station is set to reopen.

According to the , the train station's new site is being secured, paving the way for construction to start on the site.

The West Midlands is also home to the shortest train route in the UK, with others claiming its the shortest in Europe.
