New £250million adventure holiday resort in the UK with 570 lodges to start work this year

A NEW holiday resort is set to open in the UK with enough space for hundreds of guests.

Work is underway to build a lavish holiday park in the Afan Valley in Wales.

The new £250million holiday park, which is known as Wildfox Resorts, was first announced in 2022.

Work began on the site back in May 2023, with the team behind the development closing footpaths and installing temporary fencing around the site for public safety.

Unfortunately, work on the site was short-lived, as operations ceased just months later in August 2023.

But earlier this week, the company charged with bringing the ambitious project to life confirmed with that work had re-started in February 2024.

Construction work is due to take place in stages, with the site slated to open to holidaymakers in 2027.

Once the new Wildfox adventure holiday resort in the Afan Valley is open, it is expected to feature 570 lodges as well as 130 apartments and rooms.

There will be plenty of outdoor activities on the site too, including wild swimming, mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, and bouldering as well as two state-of-the-art zip wires.

An indoor waterpark, spa and a shopping plaza will also be constructed on the site too.

It is thought that the Afan Valley Park will be the first of three proposed resorts in the UK.

Located seven miles from the town of Port Talbot, the new holiday park is expected to generate thousands of jobs in the area.

Bridgend Council leader, Cllr Huw David, previously said: "This hugely ambitious development will be a catalyst for a new wave of employment and tourism in the south Wales valleys.

"The resort is set to employ around 1,000 people in addition to the jobs that will be generated during its construction phase, and with access routes running through both the Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend County Borough areas, it will offer plenty of supplier, training and investment opportunities."

Holidays at the resort could operate on a similar schedule to Center Parcs, with guests arriving on Mondays or Fridays for three, four or seven days.

The project is being led by Peter Moore, who brought Center Parcs to the UK.

There are plenty of other holiday resorts set to open in the UK this year.

Butlin's Skegness Resort

Last year, Butlin's revealed it will be opening a set of £12 million holiday lodges throughout 2024.  

Part of a huge renovation at the Butlin's Skegness resort, the site will be called Maple Walk Village and include 128 lodges.

Each lodge will have three bedrooms, with the main one having a king-size bed and ensuite shower room. There will also be two twin rooms, as well as a fully equipped kitchen which has tea and coffee making facilities as well as a fridge. 

The new lodges will be available to book for overnight stays from May 2024.

Legoland, Woodland Village

The new accommodation will open to the public in May 2024 - with overnight stays already on sale.

There will be 130 holiday lodges and 20 camping barrels on the 10-acre site - with for a family of four.

While most lodges will have bed space for between two to five guests, 10 premium lodges will be able to sleep up to seven people.

The Woodland Village will also be home to 20 camping barrels.

Other features include The Clubhouse Restaurant & Bar, which will serve up campfire-inspired grub in a woodland-themed setting.

Meanwhile, a new glamping site could soon open in the UK with enough space for over 200 overnight guests.

The National Exhibition Centre in Marston Green has received planning permission to open a brand-new glamping site on its campus in Solihull.

Located just outside of Birmingham city centre, the site is set to have 59 pods, which will be able to accommodate 236 guests.
