‘It has the highest concentration of entitled idiots’ – the plane cabin that turns passengers into the worst people

They expect their seat to offer so much more than it actually does

FLIGHT attendants everywhere hate having to work in a certain cabin on board their planes.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the chaos of economy provided the worst work environment, or that first class was actually full of entitled snobs.

However, there's another section of the plane where the worst passengers are often found and in this week's blog for Sun Online Travel, I'll explain who they are and just why they're so awful.

Not many people realise it, but the premium economy section is the place where you're most likely to find argumentative passengers.

I think it's because the people who sit there are the ones who expect the most, and it's usually stuff we just can't provide.

They think because they've paid a little extra, they're going to get cocktails and an extensive food menu to choose from, but all they really get is speedy boarding and a bit more legroom.

It's definitely the section where I've had to deal with the most tantrums.

Economy passengers know what to expect, as do those who travel in business or first. They understand that there's limits to what can and can't be provided.

But premium economy definitely has the highest concentration of entitled idiots, for sure.

The problem is that they focus far too much on the "premium" part and not enough on the "economy" side.

Sure, there are some perks, but nowhere near the level that some people expect.

I've had people asking if I can mix them a mojito before, or even if they could "see the menu".

The menu is chicken or fish - or the meal you should have ordered in advance if you have dietary requirements.

It's a plane, not a cocktail bar or a restaurant and we aren't chefs, waiters or mixologists. We're primarily there for your safety and that's something that people constantly don't seem to understand.

As well as fetching drinks and activity packs for your children or while trying to find you a new seat if your entertainment system isn't working, we're also constantly assessing how safe the flight is.

We're on high alert all the time and passengers don't really seem to take that into account when they're bossing us around or asking if we have a "different kind of gin" for their pre-lunch drink.

The majority of those people are sadly found in premium economy - expecting their little upgrade to encompass so much more than it actually does.

It's still technically an economy seat, not a private jet, and there are sometimes even two classes above yours on the plane.

So make the most of your bigger seat and your extra legroom, but don't expect too much because I sadly have to explain this to people over and over again.

I don't want to argue with my passengers, I just want us all to have a nice relaxing flight.

But some people make that very difficult, simply by being unrealistic and not understanding exactly what they're entitled to and the hundreds of ridiculous things they aren't.
