The English beach which you get to by chairlift – with multicoloured cliffs and fairground rides
A BEACH in the UK has won fans for it's rather unique way of getting to it - via a chairlift with stunning views.
Alum Bay, on the Isle of Wight, is known for its multicoloured cliffs formed by chalk stacks.
The long stretch of pebble beach is often praised as being one of the most picturesque beaches on the island.
It's bright blue waters are popular with families, being clear enough to spot fish and sea life underneath as well as shallow enough to paddle.
But the most popular part of the beach is the Needles chairlift taking tourists up and down with amazing views along the way.
It celebrated it's 50th anniversary last year, carrying more than 14million people since it opened in 1973

Taking around 10 minutes, tourists can use it to get to the beach if they want to avoid a long hike.
The Needles Landmark Attraction says on the website: "Always a firm favourite with our visitors, the iconic Needles Chairlift is the best way to see the Isle of Wight’s most famous landmark.
"Start your day with a delightful trip from the top of the Alum Bay cliffs down to the beach below and experience spectacular views of the picturesque Needles Rocks and Lighthouse, as well as the multi-coloured sand cliffs of Alum Bay and the stunning turquoise waters beyond."
The Needles Landmark tickets are just £4, and reopens at Easter.
If you don't fancy the ride, you can also walk down to the beach via stairs.
Or you can take a boat from the beach to the Needles Rocks and lighthouse, with the 25-minute trip between £5-£8.
But tourists have raved about the chairlift, saying on social media: "Did this 2 days ago with my 9 and 6 year old. They loved it."
Another simply said: "This is so epic."
Also nearby is a tea room and shops which includes the Sand Shop where you can fill a bottle with Alum Bay sands in unusual shapes.
This is because taking the sand from the beach is banned, due to the area being a West High Down Site of Special Scientific Interest.
And stay on the clifftops and head to the amusement park, which has fairground rides including the Carousel, tea cups and crazy golf.
The park also opens during the summer, running from April to October.
