Empty sandy beaches, inflatable waterparks & fastest go-karts in the south – how to do Hols from £9.50 in Kent & Sussex
IF you like the sound of charming villages with cobblestone streets lined by boutique cafes, and historic cathedrals with wonky turrets and impressive stained-glass windows, then Sussex and Kent will have you covered.
There are some picturesque beaches in these parts and if you’re lucky, you may even get the entire sands to yourself, especially in low season — as long as you know where to look.
Parkdean Resorts Camber Sands, as the name suggests, is right on the beach, which can get busy in summer, but with five miles of beautiful coastline to ramble you won’t have difficulty finding a spot to pitch your towels and windshields.
It’s certainly the place for adventurous types. There is a high ropes course that will have kids buckled into harnesses and jumping between pillars, plus there’s Adventure Bugz, where youngsters will drive their own mini 6x6 cart along rough terrain.
The Thunderbird Fried Chicken restaurant is on site, serving up wings, burgers and strips.
But if you’re after something a little fancier, try The Union Rye () up the road. It changes its menu regularly, according to the season and what’s on offer locally.

And it is reasonably priced for what it serves — expect veggie dishes such as tomato panzanella, aioli, pickled red onion and basil salad for a tenner and fresh seafood like squid served with grilled shallots for £21.
Also in Rye is William The Conqueror (), an excellent pub for a pint, with plenty of outdoor tables for when the sun shines, and properly good pub grub.
If you haven’t had your fill of adventure back at Camber Sands, you’ll definitely want to visit Action Watersports, set on a huge lake, ten minutes’ drive from the holiday resort.
New to the waterpark is a giant inflatable obstacle course (£23pp including wetsuit and buoyancy aid) or you can try your luck at foiling, a watersports activity that combines several types of surfing (see ).

While you’re here, why not swing by Lydd Kart Circuit, just round the corner, which claims to be the “biggest and fastest kart circuit in the south”.
From £25pp you’ll get to wear a race suit, helmet and race gloves as you hop in your cart (you’ll look the complete real deal) and whizz round a track that even Lewis Hamilton would be impressed with (see ).
