Pontins closes another holiday park for good

It comes just weeks after two other parks were forced to close immediately

PONTINS has confirmed that another holiday park has been closed with immediate effect - just weeks after another two shut down.

Pontins Southport remained open over the new year, with a New Year's Eve party for families taking place on Sunday.

However, it was forced to close due to flooding caused by Storm Henk.

The site then confirmed that the closure would be for good.

The website states: "It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Pontins Southport Holiday Park.

"After assessing the future viability of the park, we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors.

"Unfortunately, this means that Pontins Southport Holiday Park will be closing from Wednesday 3rd January 2024.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Sun Online Travel has contacted Pontins for additional comment.

It comes just weeks after both Pontins Prestatyn and Pontins Camber Sands confirmed they would be closing for good.

While the holiday park said affected guests would be "contacted and refunded," many families said they were left "heartbroken" by the news.

Pontins once had as many as 30 holiday parks open in the UK, although this fell to six in recent months.

With the recent closures, there are just two Pontins sites open in the UK.

Pakefield Holiday Park in Suffolk and and Sand Bay Holiday Village Somerset currently remain open.

And Pontins Brean Sands, the oldest of the holiday parks which dates back to the 1930s, is currently closed to the public due to a huge refurbishment including upgrades to 600 chalets.

Set to open in 2027, it is currently being used by workers at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the meantime, as construction continues on a new nuclear power plant.

It's not the only closures that have affected Brits in recent weeks.

Alton Towers confirmed that the Alton Towers Spa has closed down, 21 years after it opened.

And KidZania London, a huge indoor mini city where kids could act out real jobs, closed down after eight years.
