This included use of the pool and relaxation rooms, which included a hot tub, log sauna and foot baths, as well as well as facials, massages and beauty treaments such as lashes, nails and spray tans.

Having opened back in 1996, originally as a themed Pirate's Lagoon, it was eventually turned into the spa in 2003 after the park's water park opened.

However, it was forced to close on December 31 - and will not be reopening

A spokesman at Alton Towers said: "After careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to close the Spa located on-site.

"This was a difficult decision but one we feel is essential for the future growth and development of the Resort.

"Our top priority has been supporting our employees at the Spa during this time, including with advice on career opportunities available across the Resort.

"We are also in the process of contacting guests with bookings in 2024 to discuss alternative options.

"We sincerely appreciate the loyalty and support of our valued guests and dedicated colleagues throughout the years."

In November 2023, the fairground Retro Squad rides were removed, which included Funk 'n' Fly remains, Twistatron and Spinjam.

But opening this year is Alton Towers' brand new rollercoaster.
