Short-haul winter sun destination with seven-mile beach that’s 21C in January gets new British Airways flights from UK

A CHEAP winter sun destination has new flights from the UK - and it's only a few hours away.

British Airways has announced the new flights will launch from London Gatwick from March 31, 2024, although are already on sale.

Operated by the short-haul subsidiary BA Euroflyer, the four-hour flights will visit Agadir in Morocco.

Agadir is the largest seaside resort in Morocco, although was rebuilt in the 1960s after an earthquake hit.

Flights will take place four times a week - and be the first time in more than a decade that BA has operated UK-Agadir flights.

Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer, said: “Agadir is a coastal destination that enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year, so we know it will see strong demand from our leisure customers and particularly those seeking holiday packages.

"It offers beaches, golf courses and water sports alongside the opportunity to experience cultural landmarks, such as Agadir Kasbah.”

Return flights start from £138, with the choice of the business class Club Europe or economy Euro Traveller onboard.

Agadir is popular with Brits wanting some last minute winter sun - the temperature remains above 21C even in December and January, with average summer temperatures around 27C.

The coastal city is known for it's huge stretches of golden sand, with a seven-mile beach attracting surfers.

Other popular tourist activities include getting spa experiences at the local hammams, or visiting the markets such as El Had souk which has more than 6,000 stalls.

The largest tourist attraction is the The Kasbah of Agadir Oufla, a 16th century fort that housed the old city before the earthquake back in the 1960s.

However, another earthquake earlier this year, which left more than 2,000 dead, resulted in more damage earlier this year.

Other popular areas that tourists visit include the nearby Taghazout, popular with surfers, and the Souss-Massa National Park.

It's not just BA who has launched new flights - Jet2 has also launched flights from Leeds Bradford Airport to Agadir.

The year-round flights will launch from October 3, 2024.

And if you want to book your own holiday, all-inclusive breaks are cheap, which can be found for less than £300pp.

Otherwise local hotels start from just £20 a night.

Popular resorts with Brits include the Hotel Riu Palace Tikida Agadir, or the Sofitel resorts.

Brits don't need a visa to visit either, with Agadir just one hour ahead of the UK - so not jet lag.
