A WATERFALL in the UK has been compared to landscapes seen in Jurassic Park films and has even featured in some other Hollywood blockbusters.

Dinorwig in Snowdonia is home to the former quarry, where the Welsh Slate Museum can also be found.

It's known as the "electric mountain" because of a hydroelectric power station now found inside the surrounding hills.

Its natural beauty has drawn attention on social media, with Instagram accounts and sharing a video from the spot.

They wrote about the waterfalls: "Feeling like I’m in some movie, where I’m going on this wild ‘snakes and ladders’ route—climbing rock walls with rusty old ladders and venturing into Jurassic Park through the tunnels."

Their followers were very impressed with what they'd seen, with plenty of them expressing their amazement at the site.

One wrote: "This looks amazing."

Another said: "I need to go here."

A third added: ";it’s a spectacular place to visit."

The comparison to a Jurassic Park film wasn't far off, with films like Tarzan, Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider and Clash of the Titans all filmed at the slate quarry.

It's easy to see why they picked the location, with photographers waxing lyrical about it as a subject to be put in front of a camera.

Landscape photographer described it as "a must-see photography location".

He wrote: "An enchanting waterfall lies hidden deep in the bowls of the sprawling Dinorwic Quarry, near Llanberis in North Wales."

It's not just outsiders who have been amazed by the scenery surrounding the quarry, with Llechi Cymru describing it as "astoundingly beautiful".

The ruins of 13th century Dolbadarn Castle are among the features also worth visiting nearby.

It can be found overlooking Llyn Peris, a 1.8km long lake, with mountain Elidir Fawr opposite.

It's far from the only waterfall in Wales to have played a part in modern films.

Pistyll-Rhaeadr can be found near Powys and is believed to have influenced writer J.R.R. Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings.

The falls are taller than Niagara Falls and have been compared to the Elvish town of Rivendell from the books and movies.

Meanwhile, in the Brecon Beacons, Henrhyd Falls have become known as Batman Falls due to their appearance in the film The Dark Knight Rises.

The natural feature was used as the secret entrance to the Batcave, a hidden dwelling where Batman stores his gadgets, suits and many vehicles.
