Plus, the three UK beach towns that are better to visit in the winter

THE warmest beaches in the UK in the winter have been revealed - with one reaching highs of 11.5C in the colder months.

While a winter beach trip may not sound ideal, there will be some brave Brits who will want nothing more than to go for a bracing dip.

New research from Parkdean Resorts, a UK holiday provider, has found that Kynance Cove in Cornwall is the UK's warmest beach to visit in the winter.

On the beach, average temperatures can reach a refreshing 11.5C.

Located in Mount’s Bay, Kynance Cove is a small Cornish beach.

In the summer months, it's home to picture-perfect turquoise waters, fine white sand, and incredible rock formations.

Other beaches in the study that had some of the highest winter temperatures included Shell Bay in Studland, Dorset, along with Barafundle Bay, in Pembrokeshire - with average temperatures of 11C.

Barafundle Beach has been praised by holidaymakers in recent years, with some even calling it the "Jewell of Pembrokeshire beaches".

Nestled on the coastline of the National Trust’s Stackpole Estate between divine limestone cliffs, Barafundle Bay is often named as one of the world's best beaches.

The secluded bay is located off the beaten track, meaning it can be a bit taxing to reach.

Meanwhile, temperatures can reach 10.5C in Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall in the winter months.

Just like Kynance Cove, Porthcurno Beach is known for its picturesque white sand.

Rhossili Bay in Glamorgan, Wales, rounds off the top five, with temperatures reaching 10C in November and December.

The Welsh beach is three miles long, and it's dog-friendly too - making it a great spot for long winter walks.

But some UK seaside towns are better to visit in the winter as opposed to summer, according to one seaside expert.

Madeleine Bunting is an award-winning author and travel writer who has spent the last two years visiting 40 seaside towns in England.

She documented her coastal adventures in her new book, The Seaside: England's Love Affair.

Earlier this year, Madeleine told Sun Online Travel that Robin Hood's Bay, an old fishing village set on the North York Moors, was better to visit in the winter.

She said: "Robin Hood's Bay gets very crowded in the summer, but in the winter there's more space in the village."

The seaside expert also explained how both Whitby and Whitstable were better for holidaymakers in the winter.

This is because there are fewer crowds of holidaymakers flocking to the seaside towns in the winter.

Earlier this year, Madeleine also revealed the one beach town Brits shouldn't visit in the day.
