The ‘must-visit’ Spanish town away from the crowds where Game of Thrones was filmed
ANDALUSIA is home to plenty of popular well-known holiday destinations, but some places have flown under the radar.
Every year, millions of Brits head to Spain for their holidays, but mostly stick to well-known resorts.
One place Brit holidaymakers might not know about is Almodovar del Rio in Andalusia.
Spanish travel experts at have dubbed the lesser-known town as a "must-visit" thanks to its famous medieval castle.
Located between the Guadalquivir River and the Sierra de Hornachuelos Nature Reserve and mountain range, Almodovar del Rio is a Spanish hilltop town.
One of the town's main attractions is its medieval castle, which had a starring role in the seventh season of the hit TV show Game of Thrones.

Castillo de Almodovar acted as High Garden, the palace of House Tyrell, and the dungeons of Casterly Rock.
Built in the 8th Century, the castle has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years to feature parts like towers, battlements, a dungeon, a parade ground, and a hexagonal chapel.
The castle first opened to visitors in 2001, and it is now owned by Fernando Fernando de Solís and his wife.
Entry tickets into the castle, including a cultural guided tour, cost 10 for a full-paying adult and 6 for children aged between 5 to 13.
Plenty of events and activities are held at the Spanish castle, including historical reenactments from the 14th century, medieval lunches, and medieval combat training.
Despite being far away from the coast, holidaymakers can still cool off in Embalse La Breña.
Dubbed "one of the most beautiful lakes in Andalucia" by local travel blogger , is only a few minutes' drive from the Spanish town.
In addition to swimming, other activities can be found at the lake, including kayaking and walking routes.
At a 90-minute drive away, Seville is the closest airport to Almodovar del Rio.
Ryanair, easyJet, and British Airways operate direct flights to Seville from airports across London.
Prices start from as little as £19 for a one-way ticket, with a flight time of 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Accommodation in Almodovar del Rio is extremely affordable too.
Sun Online Travel have found an overnight stay at a three-bedroom house in town for as little as £70 per night.
There are plenty of other lesser-known and unsung Spanish towns too, including Blanes and Vigo.
Brits who don't want to fly to Spain to visit a castle will already know that there are plenty of old fortresses in the UK.
