THEME park fans are getting excited as the UK's tallest and fastest rollercoaster starts to take shape.

Last month it was revealed that the ride, then simply known as Project Exodus, would be opening at Thorpe Park next year.

Now images have shown the ride's track taking shape, while the park has also given the coaster its official name - Hyperia.

They said: "In 2024 we’re taking thrills to incredible new heights with ‘Hyperia’ — the UK’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

"Reaching heights of 236ft and speeds of over 80mph, once you’ve experienced Hyperia you’ll never fear again."

The new ride will be Thorpe Park’s first major addition since The Swarm in 2012.

It will feature some of the highest inversions in Europe, and will also have a "splash down" element towards the end, for which the coaster will splash into a lake that will be surrounding the ride.

It is also set to boast three inversions including a dive loop, an Immelmann (where the coaster climbs a hill, performs a half-loop, and then twists 180 degrees to level out in the opposite direction) and a unique one-of-a-kind inversion that sends riders upside down as they come out of an outerbank turn.

This inversion has never been done on a rollercoaster before and is so new that it doesn’t have an official name yet.

It will involve the rollercoaster following a curved track element where the track tilts outward, away from the centre of the curve and before being taken directly into an inversion.

"Two huge support towers have gone up in the lower end of the site and deliveries of track are happening very frequently including the lift hill stairs."

Hyperia isn't the only ride that thrillseekers are getting excited about, with the reopening of Nemesis at Alton Towers also getting plenty of attraction.

The ride closed down for refurbishments at the end of last year, but will reopen next year.

Newly painted track has already been installed at the park, while other new elements are also in place.

After it closed, the ride's designer John Wardley told Sun Online Travel that when it reopens, Nemesis will be even better than it was.

He said new elements would include "more storytelling, more special effects and scenery".

Meanwhile, Alton Towers is set to open a new £12.5million indoor ride, currently known as "project horizon".

And Drayton Manor is also set to open a new "thrill ride".
