I’m a mumfluencer – I always see parents make the same mistake at airports

IF you're a parent who's ever struggled to keep a child entertained on a flight, then one mum-of-two has a simple trick that can often ease the pain.

Laura Oduntan, 37, founded the 5am mama, an online clothing brand that sells loungewear and travel bags for parents and families.

The range is designed by Laura who runs the business by herself from her home.

Some of her standout pieces include a crochet beach bag as well as items of loungewear like t-shirts and sweatshirts.

In addition to owning her own business, Laura and her husband have gone on several family holidays with their two young daughters, aged six and three.

Along the way, the mum-of-two has picked up some useful tips that make flying with children a doddle.

Laura told Sun Online Travel: "When you're getting on the plane, get on the plane last with the kids.

"People always rush to get on the plane when they have children, but then they're sitting there for even longer and have to stay on the plane.

"No one will take your seats, so make sure to go through the airport for a bit longer and let them tire themselves out."

And it's not just families with young children who should board the plane last either.

A frequent flyer recently revealed that you're more likely to be upgraded if you're one of the last people on the aircraft.

In addition to keeping her children off the plane for as long as possible, Laura also has an incredibly cheap trick for making plane seats more comfortable for little legs.

She takes a large muslin cloth - the kind used by new mums to clean baby sick - and stretches it between the seat and seat pocket to create a hammock - as demonstrated in this TikTok video.

Laura told Sun Online Travel: "I always take a large muslin on holiday as a lightweight blanket for naps, but when my daughter got a bit fidgety on the plane I thought I’d try tucking it in the seat pocket to help her sit more comfortably.

"I was surprised at how well it held, allowing her to stretch out her legs.

"I tried it with my 6-year-old, however, and it wasn’t strong enough for her - definitely a hack for toddlers only!"

This advice comes as other parents and experts share their advice on travelling with kids, including 11 top tips on how to keep little ones happy on a long-haul flight.

Meanwhile, another mum impressed fellow passengers with her hacks.
