Quaint European capital is ultimate cheap city break costing £100pp for entire weekend – and winter’s best time to visit

THERE'S a quaint city in Eastern Europe where you can holiday for two nights without spending more than £100 - and this time of year is even the best time to visit.

That price includes flights and two nights in a four-star hotel, with even food and drinks as well.

From £69pp on , holidaymakers can get their hands on return flights and a two-night stay at the Bellevue Park Hotel in Riga, Latvia, with breakfast included.

The cost of having fun while out there doesn't have to break the back either - according Savvy Backpacker's ; lunch, dinner and a beer can be bought for just under £10.40, with an extra £1.30 needed for public transport.

This means the whole two-day trip can be booked for less than £100 per person.

What's more, the deal is for dates during the winter time, when Riga's Christmas market is up and running.

The market has been named as Europe's "most authentic" by , who also said the city had the best Christmas lights.

They said: "Riga’s special atmosphere and vibe is unique and unrepeatable. There is no better time to visit than in the winter."

The Christmas market isn't the only one worth visiting in the city, with the Central Market inviting visitors to "get closer to Latvian culture and traditions".

A number of traditional dishes and drinks are sold in the market, as well as crafts, jewellery and other souvenirs.

Salted and dried mushrooms, honey, sauerkraut and winter pig snouts are among the local delicacies that can be picked up.

However, arguably the best place to experience the real city is in the old town, where restaurants, cafes and bars sit among the cobbled streets and traditional architecture.

Other worthwhile attractions include the KGB building, Riga cathedral and the Freedom monument.

Flights are available from all London airports or Bristol airport across selected dates in both November and December.
