Why Cape Verde?

Just off West Africa in the central Atlantic Ocean, ten islands are making up the Cape Verde island country.

The two islands that attract the most visitors are Sal and Boa Vista, thanks to their outstanding beaches and things to do.

Sal has endless miles of sandy beaches and great nightlife, plus many cheap restaurants to visit to enjoy the local cuisine.

The capital, Praia, is located in Santiago, which is also the most populated island.

Meanwhile, Santo Antão has been said to be one of the most stunning islands and a 'hidden gem' since not many tourists choose to travel there.

The best time to travel to Cape Verde is between November and April when sunshine is guaranteed and catching rainy days is almost impossible.

During this period, temperatures have an average of 30C every day.

However, even during the 'wet season' (between May and October), temperatures never dip below 24C.

There is so much to do in Cape Verde, from excursions and hikes to relaxing beaches, shopping and nights out.

The islands are great for sports fanatics, as you'll find plenty of watersports, hiking trails, excursions and even fishing opportunities.

During the hatching season in Boa Vista, loggerhead turtles may be seen laying their eggs on the beach, and it's also known as one of the best spots to observe humpback whales.

Adventurers can even explore the must-see island's sand dunes on 4x4s, which are even frequently compared to the Sahara.

Traditional live music and dancing are usually the way to go when it comes to nightlife.

You'll find clubs and bars playing the nation's Creole music, combining African sounds with European and Latin influences and instruments.

If you're looking for a cheap night out, Ola Brasil, a beach bar near Sal's pier, has cocktails for as low as £2.50.
