Popular European holiday destination to cap plane ticket prices during summer holidays
A POPULAR holiday destination for Brits has capped the price of their flight tickets during the summer season.
The Italian government has said that they will be capping the price of flights to Sardinia and Sicily, two of the country's most popular holiday islands.
A recent study by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera found that flights to the islands from mainland Italy could be as much as 830 per cent more than the average price during the peak season.
The government has since introduced a new law that stops domestic flights to Sicily and Sardinia that bans them from costing more than 200 per cent during summer.
The new laws also ban huge price jumps during any national emergencies, which can also often cause flights to jump in price.
This could affect nine out of 10 flights, the study found.

Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said: "We intervened with a decree that protects the market and consumers.
He added: "The state must intervene when citizens are subjected to a measure that doesn’t respond to market rules, but which is against and does not protect their rights.”

However, Ryanair has slammed the new law, saying it was "ridiculous and illegal".
The airline's CEO Eddy Wilson called for it to be scrapped, adding: "If it isn't, there will be an impact on Ryanair's ability to operate in Italy."
The new law follows an investigation last year into claims that airlines raised fares during the Christmas holidays as well.
Research found one-way fares from Rome to Palermo were as much as €511 (£440) for the one-hour flight - costing more than a flight from Rome to New York.
