AISLE MISS YOU

Why you should never book seats next to each other on a flight

A COUPLE has revealed why they think you should never book a seat next to your travel companion on a flight.

Choosing seats that will enable you to be comfortable in cramped plane cabins while sitting with your partner can be very difficult.

However, a pair of Tiktokers claim to have found the best way to maximise space, while being in a position to chat and share their journey together.

Gavin and Jess () who run the TWC - A travel community Tiktok account, claim that the best way to fly is to not sit directly next to each other.

Instead, they pick seats either side of the aisle, which they claim provides "leg room for us both and the perfect amount of space between us".

In , they said: "People think we're weird but to be honest the most elite seat configuration when flying with someone is to both pick the aisle seats in the same aisle."

The footage showed the pair sat either side of the plane's aisle, where they could easily talk to each other, while both stretching out into the space between them.

However, not everyone was convinced by their seating arrangement.

One person wrote: "Nah I want to use my husbands shoulder to snooze on."

Another said: "I hate the aisle seat because people walking by just bump into me over and over again."

A third added: "But then you're smooshed against a stranger."

There were those who agreed with Gavin and Jess though, with one saying: "We always do this if we can."

Another agreed, adding: "This is the only way we fly!"

There are those who have other methods for sitting close to their travel partner, while maintaining space in between them.

One requires couples, or a pair of friends, to book the aisle seat and the window seat in the same row, leaving the middle seat free between them.

The hope is that no one is allocated the middle spot, giving the couple the whole row, with an extra seat between them.

Sara Nelson, international president for the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA,  on Twitter that her and her friend were "a couple of flying fanatics who do this every time" because there's a "better chance of getting the row to ourselves.”

Tiktok travel expert  is also a fan of the method and said she always does it when travelling with a friend.

She said: "No one wants the middle seat, so there's a chance no one buys the middle seat or gets placed in the middle seat between you and then you have a whole row to yourselves.

"If there's an aisle seat open, 100 out of 100 times, that person is going to pick the aisle seat over the middle seat."

Meanwhile, travel experts have shared a clever trick which gets you a row to yourself during a flight.
