The brand new outdoor swimming pool right on a UK beach

A NEW outdoor swimming pool has opened in the UK this month - and it's right in the middle of a beach.

Outdoor swimming is the perfect way to cool down during the warm summer months and one popular seaside town now has a lido, as well as the sea, for people to enjoy.

The new 50 metre, six-lane heated pool is situated right in the middle of Brighton beach - an already busy spot in the summer.

The pool, named Sea Lanes Brighton, has been built on a derelict site and "will provide much needed swimming provisions for the city" according to its website.

The lido is open to the public on a pay-per-swim basis with memberships also available.

To take a dip, it will set you back £11, or £7 for those either under 18 or over 60.

Beachside cold showers and lockers are on site available for sea swimmers to use free of charge.

Olympic medallist Keri-Anne Payne officially opened the new pool on June 2, by providing a swim Masterclass.

She said: "Sea Lanes is a unique venue perfectly positioned to increase the accessibility of open water swimming for swimmers of all abilities.

"The benefits of open water swimming are vast and a venue like this offers so many people the opportunity to experience and enjoy them."

Joe McNulty, Sea Lanes Brighton Director, said: “Sea Lanes captures the spirit of Brighton & Hove.

"We have a 21st Century design, using the latest construction technology, with an acknowledgement of Brighton’s 19th Century heritage when it was synonymous with swimming and wellbeing.

“Sea Lanes will meet the demands of creating a seaside attraction, supporting swimming provisions and providing a hub for all open water swimmers in the region and further afield."
